Flagler School Counselors and Teachers Tour Local Manufacturing Facilities

Friday, January 20, 2017 - 3:21pm

A handful of Flagler Schools teachers and counselors took part in the 2nd Annual Volusia Manufacturing Association “VMA Manufacturing Champions School Counselor/Teacher Bus Tour” Friday. This tour gives these teachers and counselors an up-close look at the career possibilities for students as they plot their post-education plans. It’s also an important step in better promoting the Flagler Schools’ Classroom to Careers initiative.

HR Directors and managers were able to speak to these educators about what they are looking for in employees and which skills students will need upon graduation. Among the stops were Teledyne Oil & Gas in Daytona Beach, Thompson Pump in Port Orange, Pall Corp in DeLand and Command Medical in Ormond Beach.

A number of students from both Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas High Schools will embark on their own tour in a week. For a second year, these high schoolers will take part in Career Exploration Tour of Sea Ray’s manufacturing facility here in Flagler County. A similar tour last year was led by a Flagler Palm Coast High School graduate who has gone on to a successful career with Sea Ray.

Career Exploration Tours are made possible by the Flagler County Education Foundation, a 501c3 that works in support of Flagler County Schools. Elizabeth Tricano, an HR specialist at the Sea Ray plant here in Flagler County is a member of the Flagler County Board of Directors.
